in 2009, i unexpectedly fell for a little show with a godawful name: cougartown. i saw the billboards; i saw courteney cox's strangely botoxed face; i cringed. but then i actually watched the gosh darn show and it's freaking hilarious.
it's like friends if friends wasn't so fucking lame. but with more wine. and set in florida. and with busy philipps (totally another TV crush of mine since her freaks and geeks days). but, as always, the tv gods like to fuck with me and the new season of cougartown won't be on til 2012. like abed on community, i was devastated.
in the meantime, i kept hearing people say things like "gee, that midseason, terribly titled show about a group of young friends is actually great!" (actually is always the qualifier for liking shows that most people don't think are cool). and they weren't talking about c-town, but casey wilson's post-SNL sitcom, "happy endings."
and, ACTUALLY, it is amazing. it's like a young cougartown! friends, if the characters were likeable! and the real breakout star here is casey, who sasses it up with her non-boring-blonde sass and spot-on comedic timing. she's got catchphrases (the aforementioned a-mahh-zing), she loves to get her liquor and dance on. and btw, her mom is played by megan mullally. and they did a duet of "torn" together at a boat show dressed in sailor jumpsuits.
